Count Vittorio Alfieri was an Italian dramatist and poet, considered the "founder of Italian tragedy." From this moment Alfieri was seized with an insatiable thirst for theatrical fame, to which he devoted the remainder of his life. His first two tragedies, Filippo and Polinice, were originally written in French prose. He was born on 16 January 1749 and died on 8 October 1803. After a casual education he travelled throughout Europe, returning to Turin in1772. His 19 tragedies were written with the theme of the hero defying the forces of tyranny. He lived most of his life in France, being forced to flee after the Revolution in 1792. Keywords: Count Vittorio Alfieri, Italian, poet, photograph, 1970,
