FUNERAL FOR PRINCESS DIANA
The world paid
London. The funeral for the Princess, who died in a car crash in Paris at age 36 on 31
August 1997, was held in Westminster Abbey with 2,000 people in attendance. Over
one million people lined the streets of the British capital to for the passage of Diana's
coffin into Abbey from her home at Kensington Palace. White lllies had been placed
atop the coffin, which was followed for the last part of the voyage by her sons, Prince
William, 15, Prince Harry, 12, her ex-husband, Prince Charles, the Duke of
Edinburgh and Diana's brother, Charles, the Earl of Spencer. After the rites, the
coffin, carried on a gun carriage and draped with the Royal Standard, was driven for
two miles through the streets of London where mourners waited along the route to pay
homage to Diana on her final journey.
