Field Marshall Earl Alexander of Tunis, H.M. Lieutenant of the County of London, Grand Master of the Order of St. Michael and St. George and Constable of the Tower of London. Born in 1981, educated at Harrow and Sandhurst, he served in the two World Wars and showed himself to be one of Britain's greatest military leaders, ending the 1939-45 war as Supreme Allied Commander, Mediterranean Theatre. In 1946 he was appointed Governor-General of Canada, a post he held until 1952, when he became Minister of Defence and served in this capacity until 1954.
