She is known in Maghreb, especially in Algeria for having closely followed the crisis of the war in Algeria. Almgren was indeed one of the few journalists to have crossed the Tunisian-Algerian border to enter Algeria and make contact with the soldiers of the National Liberation Army of Algeria.
