Ken Rowlands became a Rugby Union referee in 1964. In 1979 he was a member of the full Welsh Rugby Union International Panel and Five Nations, and refereed Internationals in over 25 countries. He was invited to referee South Africa versus the Rest of the World match to open Ellis Park, S. Africa, as well as Wales versus the Rest of the World Centenary Match.
