Biskopsgården / Strängnäs stift is a staple within the church of Sweden, formed around 1100. It was founded by Sankt Eskil, a missionary who gave his name to Eskilstuna. Eskil was murdered during his activity in Strängnäs, which made the foundation after his martyrdom death moved there.
