Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev was a Russian politician who led the Soviet Union during part of the Cold War. He served as First Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1953 to 1964, and as Chairman of the Council of Ministers, or Premier, from 1958 to 1964. Khrushchev was responsible for the de-Stalinization of the Soviet Union, for backing the progress of the early Soviet space program, and for several relatively liberal reforms in areas of domestic policy. Khrushchev's party colleagues removed him from power in 1964, replacing him with Leonid Brezhnev as First Secretary and Alexei Kosygin as Premier. He was born on 15 April 1894 and died on September 11, 1971. Nina Petrovna Khrushcheva was the third wife of the Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev. In 1938 Khrushchev was appointed as the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Ukraine, and his family returned to Kiev, but only three years later it was evacuated to Samara due to the German invasion of the Soviet Union. After Khrushchev became the Soviet leader in 1953, Kukharchuk acted as the First Lady of Soviet Union, in a position that was non-existent with previous Soviet leaders. She was born on 14 April 1900 and died on 13 August 1984. Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev, Nina Petrovna Khrushcheva, people, women, man, talking, smiling, standing,
