Plot It's the last night of the year 1899 , in Helsinki celebrates the new century which is at the door. The students at the university have kårdans and among them there Helge Ulfstjerna, son of the former Freedom poet John Ulfstjerna, even as he awaits the year 1900 at a grand ball in the Governor General's Palace. Despite the festivities smoldering discontent. Professor Stenbäck leads students in an underground movement against the Russians, which makes life more difficult for the Finns. The country will be even more Russia under a new bill, which will soon be signed by the Governor General. The student movement decides therefore to assassinate the governor. They draw lots and Helge will be the one selected to be the perpetrator of this deed. The film premiered 7 september 1936 at cinemas Red Mill in Stockholm . Shooting of the film was done with studio filming in Filmstaden , Råsunda with exteriors of Riddarholmen , Birger Jarl Square , Nobility with multiple locations in Stockholm by J. Julius . For the film's dance section responded choreographer Sven Tropp . That model has been Tor Hedberg piece Johan Ulfstjerna premiered at the Swedish Theatre in Stockholm 1907 . Hedberg based his play on events in Helsinki June 16, 1904, when the Finnish student Eugen Schauman shot the Russian governor-general Nicholas Bobrikov and then took his own life. The play has previously been used as a model for the John W.
