People in costume parading and dancing on the street during the wedding of King Birendra and Queen Aishwarya of Nepal, 1970. King Birendra was married to Aishwarya Rajya Laxmi Devi from the Rana family (and his second cousin) on 27 February 1970.[7] The wedding, which was billed as one of the most lavish Hindu nuptial ceremonies in history, cost $9.5 million to stage.[8] Crown Prince Birendra of Nepal and Princess Aishwarya were married with great pomp and ceremony in Kathmandu on 28th February, 1970. Travelling in a state coach drawn by seven horses, the couple drove through the streets of the city to the royal palace. The wedding took place for 9 days and was celebrated with celebration and joy.
