Philip Needleman, an American pharmacologist, was Professor and Chairman of pharmacology at the Washington School of Medicine in St Louis, Missouri from 1976-1989. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1967, in the physiology and pharmacology section, and received its NAS Award for the Industrial Application of Science in 2005 for his work on "metabolism of arachidonic acid in physiology and pathophysiology, which generates prostacyclin and thromboxane."
