Charles Mackerras returns to conduct Semele using his own edition of the score. The young American coloratura soprano Ruth Ann Swenson makes her House debut in the title role. She made her professional debut in 1983 as Despina in Così fan tutte with the San Francisco Opera and has returned for several roles including the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor. She made her Metropolitan Opera debut in 1991 as Zerlina in Don Giovanni and made her Paris debut in the role of Euridice in Gluck's Orfeo. Philip Langridge makes his role debut as Jupiter as does Felicity Palmer in the dual role of Juno/Ino. The cast also includes Judith Howarth as Iris, Michael Chance as Athamus, Timothy Robinson as Apollo and Peter Rose as Cadmus/Somnus. Cast includes 1. Ruth Ann Swenson Semele 2.
