More than 50,000 Christians will today fill the busy streets of central London as the massive MARCH FOR JESUS takes place. Those who think Christianity is a sombre affair will be surprised by the lively carnival atmosphere. Singing, shouting and praying all the way along the route, the banner-waving marchers will be led by a brass band and hundreds of musicians. Christians from many different churches and denominations, the marchers will have come from all over Britain to take part. This noisy, dramatic and colourful procession will slowly make its way from an opening rally on the sealed-off Embankment to dispersal at Hyde Park. March for Jesus is not a protest march. Not a march 'against' anything. Said one organiser: 'For too long Christians have been known for what we are against. We want to proclaim who and what we are for.' This is, literally, a march FOR Jesus. And Jesus is FOR peace, FOR justice, FOR the sanctity of life and FOR the powerless. FOR the downtrodden, the hurting and the victim. That is why, as marchers pass places of national importance such as Buckingham Palace, Parliament and Whitehall, they will be praying FOR the people and institutions that influence Britain. MARCH FOR JESUS is organised by a number of Christian groups and churches, together under one banner. But its vital ingredient will be the thousands of ordinary, sincere believers taking part. Since the photos are old press photographs they may have scratches, lines, or other wears of time, which just underlines the authenticity and age of the photos. In the past, the photos were often parts of a series or were mass-produced by the archives. Nowadays, their number is decimated - many were destroyed by time, use, or natural disasters. Few were preserved and are nowadays carefully stored in our archives.
