West German politician, Hans-Dietrich Genscher, 1975. Hans-Dietrich Genscher, born 21 March 1927 in Reideburg, Saale, is a German politician of the liberal Free Democratic Party (FDP). He served as foreign minister and as vice chancellor from 1974 to 1992 (except for a two-week break in 1982), making him the longest-serving holder of either post. He is the only vice chancellor in German history to serve non-consecutive terms. He was educated in Leipzig & Hamburg Universities.
