Roxette was a famous Swedish duo with Marie Fredriksson (vocals and keyboards) and Per Gessle (vocals and guitar) that formed in 1986 and broke into the international music scene with the album Look Sharp! in the late 80s.

They went on to achieve nineteen UK top 40 hits and several US Hot hits like “Listen to Your Heart”, “The Look”, “It Must Have Been Love” and “Joyride”.

 

 

Marie Fredriksson

Marie had a successful career as a solo artist before the world breakthrough 1986 with the pop duo Roxette. She had her first solo hit in 1984 with the song “Ännu doftar kärlek”. Her musical style can be described as a singer-songwriter with added elements of rock.

 In parallel with the Roxette success, Marie pursued her solo career and her last release was in 2018 with the jazz single “Sing Me A Song”. Roxette´s album “Look Sharp!” became their world breakthrough, and one of the album songs, “It Must Have Been Love” was also included in the “Pretty Woman” soundtrack, further enhancing their global popularity.

Marie got two children with her husband Mikael Bolyos with whom she married in 1994.

In 2002 Marie was diagnosed with brain cancer, was cured after four years of treatment, but died 2019 in the wake of the disease.
