Four recent graduates of Oxford University are gearing up for a four-month expedition to the Kilifi forest in Kenya. From left to right, Andy Jones (Pembroke College), William St (Hawthorne College), Andrew Russell (New College), and Kathryn Hunt (St Catherine's College) graduated last summer and will be studying the vegetation of the rainforest and collecting samples of rare flora before they are lost due to deforestation. They will also be living among the Mijikenda tribes to observe how they use the plants in the area for food and medicine. The expedition is being funded by money raised by the graduates, as well as grants from the Royal Geographical Society and Oxford University. In the past, the photos were often parts of a series or were mass-produced by the archives. Nowadays, their number is decimated - many were destroyed by time, use, or natural disasters. Few were preserved and are nowadays carefully stored in our archives.
