On August 6th 1975, a petrol station in Oxford was closed as the fire brigade and county petroleum officer took precautions to remove 6,000 gallons of petrol from an underground tank. This was due to a delivery error which put three-star petrol in a four-star tank, creating a potentially dangerous situation. Despite the seriousness of the situation, the removal operation proceeded safely and the garage was open for business the next day. Few were preserved and are nowadays carefully stored in our archives.
