This press photograph, taken on November 27, 1962, shows a comparison of a pre-World War I photograph of Magdalen Street and Cornmarket in Oxford, England and a modern view of the same area. The older photograph shows the tram lines still in place, but just past Ship Street is one of Mr. Morris's "buses" with a full complement, at least on the open top deck. Two cars are also in the picture near Carfax. At the corner of Broad Street and Cornmarket Street, the offices were occupied by Buckell, Son and Ballard, estate agents. The firm is still in business in Cornmarket Street, but "Son" has been dropped from the title. The half-hidden sign at the end of Elliston's was the site of Oxford's first telephone exchange and the bell bears the legend: "N.T.C. Public Telephone."
