The American actress Gloria Stuart, 87, nominated for an Oscar as best supporting actress for her role in the blockbuster film "Titanic", drowned herself in diamonds from Harry Winston's Fifth Avenue boutique. Stuart was at the prestigious jeweler to select the jewels Harry Winston will loan her for the Oscar ceremony in Los Angeles on Monday 23 March While browsing the treasure trove, estimated to be worth $200 million, Stuart let her fingers slowly peruse a collection which recalls the jewels lost onboard the Titanic Stuart settled on a diamond and ruby necklace with matching earrings, bracelet, and ring. As Stuart tried the ensemble she beamed, re-thinking what women have known for centuries--diamonds are indeed a girl's best friend. Gloria Frances Stuart was an American actress, visual artist, and activist. She was initially known for her roles in Pre-Code films, though she would garner renewed fame later in life for her critically acclaimed role in James Cameron's Titanic (1997). Her accolades include a Screen Actors Guild Award, one Golden Globe nomination, and one Academy Award nomination. Nominated at age 86, she is the oldest person. As of 2019 to receive an Academy Award nomination in the category of Best Supporting Actress.
