At a University Air Squadron dinner last week, Acting Pilot Officer Mike Beeston was presented with the Siddeley Trophy and the Hack Trophy, for being the most promising pilot and the best all-round of the Squadron, respectively. Beeston, who is reading engineering science at New College, was presented with the awards by retired Air Chief Marshal, Sir Christopher Foxley-Norris, and Air Officer Commander-in-Chief HQ RAF Support Command, Air Marshal Sir John Sutton, respectively. In the photograph, Beeston is seen with Cadet Pilot Steve Webb, reading geography at Regent's Park, who received the Douglas Johnson Trophy from Air Vice-Marshal Eric Macey, Air Officer Commanding the RAF College Cranwell. In the past, the photos were often parts of a series or were mass-produced by the archives. Nowadays, their number is decimated - many were destroyed by time, use, or natural disasters. Few were preserved and are nowadays carefully stored in our archives.
