Venus - Vintage Photograph

Masellan radar image of the surface of Venus, showing evidence of explosive volcanic activity. The crater in the centre of the image is 1 km in diameter & has a fan of radar-bright material some 10 km towards the towards the top of the image. This is probably a thin surface deposit, as the underlying network of fissures is still visible closer to the crater, where the underlying network of fissures is visible. These are less visible closer to the crater, where the deposit is thicker. These features are typical of terrestrial deposits formed by fallout from volcanic explosion plumes. The image shows an area 40 x 112 km, to the north of Ushas Mons. It was obtained on 16 September 1990 & has a resolution of about 120 metres.

Few were preserved and are nowadays carefully stored in our archives.
