AIRBUS A340 The world's longest range airliner, the A340 made its first landing in the United Kingdom upon arrival today, Tuesday 14th April, at the British Aerospace Airbus site at Filton, near Bristol. The wings for the Airbus family of airliners, of which the A340 is the largest so far, are designed at Filton with major parts of the wings also produced on site. Final assembly of all Airbus wings is carried out at the Chester site of British Aerospace Airbus. Partners in the European plane-making consortium, Airbus Industrie, are British Aerospace, Aerospatiale of France, Deutsche Airbus and CASA of Spain. The A340, designed to carry up to 300 passengers and with a range of 7500 miles, enters service at the turn of the year and has already won 115 firm orders from 19 customers. Since the photos are old press photographs they may have scratches, lines, or other wears of time, which just underlines the authenticity and age of the photos. In the past, the photos were often parts of a series or were mass-produced by the archives. Nowadays, their number is decimated - many were destroyed by time, use, or natural disasters. Few were preserved and are nowadays carefully stored in our archives.
