On May 30, 1985, England captain David Gower was comprehensively bowled by the elated Geoff Lawson at Old Trafford in the first Texaco Trophy one-day international. Despite half-centuries from Graham Gooch and Ian Botham, England were dismissed for 219 in 54 overs with Lawson returning impressive figures of 4-26. Gooch and Botham had added 116 runs for the fourth wicket before Gooch was caught for 57. Botham was then bowled for 72, and Lawson struck in successive deliveries to bowl Gower and have Allan Lamb caught at the wicket, reducing England to 27-3. The delight on Lawson's face told the story as his bowling spell sealed the victory for Australia.
