British Trade Unionist Jack Jones MBE - Vintage Photograph

JACK JONES MBE, General Secretary of the massive Transport and General Workers Union since 1969, Deputy Chairman of the National Ports Council since 1967, Member of the General Council of the TUC since 1968. One of the main architects of the Government-Union pay policy of 1975 and 1976. Born in 1913, he worked in the docks from 1927 to 1939, served as a Liverpool City Councillor from 1936 to 1939. He fought in the Spanish Civil War and was wounded at Ebro in 1938. From 1939 to 1955, he worked as a Union Official, then became Midlands Regional Secretary of the TGWU from 1955 to 1963. He served as Assistant Executive Secretary from 1963 to 1989 and was a member of the Labour Party's National Executive Committee from 1964 to 1967. Since the photos are old press photographs they may have scratches, lines, or other wears of time, which just underlines the authenticity and age of the photos. In the past, the photos were often parts of a series or were mass-produced by the archives. Nowadays, their number is decimated - many were destroyed by time, use, or natural disasters. Few were preserved and are nowadays carefully stored in our archives.
