Carnival Cruise Line's Sensation and Fascination (seen here) are two of a series of an unprecedented order of 8 ships all in the same class being built by Kvaerner in Finland for the same owner. The order reflects the growth in the British cruise market which is expanding at 15 per cent a year - an increase of 80 per cent in the last five years - making it the world's second largest market after the USA. Carnival Cruise Line, which operates 21 ships in the Caribbean and Mexican Riviera, has doubled the number of its UK bookings this year. Kvaerner has delivered the first four Fantasy class 79,000 tonne liners, two more are currently under construction and another two - each costing £188 million - have just been ordered and are due for delivery in 1998. In the past, the photos were often parts of a series or were mass-produced by the archives. Nowadays, their number is decimated - many were destroyed by time, use, or natural disasters. Few were preserved and are nowadays carefully stored in our archives.
