En 1963, il a reçu l'Ordre de l'Empire britannique (OBE) pour avoir réussi à sauver deux médecins britanniques kidnappés, ce qui a entraîné sa capture et sa détention par les forces irrégulières laotiennes pendant un mois. In the past, the photos were often parts of a series or were mass-produced by the archives. Nowadays, their number is decimated - many were destroyed by time, use, or natural disasters. Few were preserved and are nowadays carefully stored in our archives.
