On Tuesday, June 12, 1986, high winds caused a 50ft lime tree to collapse onto Iffley Road in Oxford, England. The section of road between Aston Street and Henley Street had to be closed off by police. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but the wind damaged a Datsun 140 car parked nearby and shattered the windscreen of a van. David Hayes of Windale Avenue, Blackbird Leys, was counting the cost after a large tree branch crashed on to his car. He is calling on the city council to help pay for repairs, citing a council ruling 18 months prior that had forced residents to park their cars on the avenue.
