On Saturday 2 December 1975, the 22nd Oxford Sea Scouts hosted their first "cash and carry" jumble sale at their headquarters in Meadow Lane, Donnington. A large crowd of determined buyers sorted through the three tons of assorted clothes collected over the last three months by Mr Bob Jones, Chairman of the Parents and Friends Association. Clothes available for purchase included World War II greatcoats and nightdresses, as well as a selection of Victorian clothing. The proceeds of the sale will go towards building a toilet and shower unit, which will cost £1,500. The club has grown to 132 Scouts, Cubs and Adventure Scouts since it began five years ago. In the past, the photos were often parts of a series or were mass-produced by the archives. Nowadays, their number is decimated - many were destroyed by time, use, or natural disasters. Few were preserved and are nowadays carefully stored in our archives.
