Professor Nils Bejerot - Vintage Photograph

Nils Bejerot, born September 21, 1921 in Stockholm, died November 29, 1988 in Stockholm, was a Swedish psychiatrist and researcher. Bejerot has been called the "Swedish drug policy father". His demands for zero tolerance were perceived as extreme for a long time, but in the late 1970s there was a turnaround. During the 1980s he was one of Sweden's most influential opinion makers. He was doubtless the one who meant the most to turn Swedish drug policy into a restrictive direction, which also led him to become a controversial person, both before and after his death. He is also known for having coined the internationally spread term Stockholm syndrome following his work with Norrmalmstorgsdramat.
