Saddam Hussein Saddam Hussein Abed al-Majid al-Tikriti (Arabic: صدام حسين عبدالمجيد التكريتي, ṣaddām ūusayn'abdu-l-maǧīd al-tikrītī), often called Saddam, born April 28, 1937 in the village of Al-Auja near Tikrit, dead December 30, 2006 in Baghdad, was Iraq's leader, president and dictator of July 16, 1979. Prior to that he was Vice President 1969-79 during Ahmad Hasan al-Bakr's reign, as well as the Prime Minister 1979-1991 and 1994. His regime was overthrown on April 9, 2003 when US troops under The Iraq war took Baghdad and was imprisoned on December 13 that year after being located in a hideaway outside Tikrit.

In the past, the photos were often parts of a series or were mass-produced by the archives. Nowadays, their number is decimated - many were destroyed by time, use, or natural disasters. Few were preserved and are nowadays carefully stored in our archives.
