Sir John Newsom, C.B.E., is the Chairman of the Public Schools Commission, which was established in December 1965 to advise on the integration of public schools into the state system of education. He is also the Joint Managing Director of Longmans, Green & Co. Ltd, an educational publishing company. Born in 1910, he attended the Imperial Service College and The Queen's College, Oxford. Prior to his current roles, he served as a County Education Officer from 1940-1957 and as the Chairman of the Central Advisory Council for Education (England) from 1961-1963. Sir John has extensive experience in education and social work and has been involved with various councils and commissions, including the Arts Council and the Departmental Committee on Public Libraries. He has authored several books on education and is married with a son and a daughter. The Public Schools Commission is expected to release its report in April 1968, which will be published later that summer. In the past, the photos were often parts of a series or were mass-produced by the archives. Nowadays, their number is decimated - many were destroyed by time, use, or natural disasters. Few were preserved and are nowadays carefully stored in our archives.
