On the 8th of May, 1964, the second day of Southfield School's annual sports saw Kenneth Wheeler (left) break the tape to win the under 15 half-mile, Geoffrey Gill (centre) claim his third success of the sports in the under 13 220 yards, and Malcolm Wicks (right) streak to victory in the senior furlong. The school's Stewart Mickie was listed among the men to watch for England's opening batting and spinner, but the selectors opted for 10 people instead. In the past, the photos were often parts of a series or were mass-produced by the archives. Nowadays, their number is decimated - many were destroyed by time, use, or natural disasters. Few were preserved and are nowadays carefully stored in our archives.
