The Oxford Brew House, located in Gloucester Street, has been recognized as the Liveliest Pub of the Year by the Consumer Association's Good Pub Guide 1987. The award was given for the pub's jazz nights, which editor Alistair Aird said "positively vibrates with life." The multi-layered pub is now included in the national drinkers' guide with a special star by its name. Manager Andy McLaughlin said that the staff were surprised to read the news in the Sunday Times and were thrilled with the award. In the past, the photos were often parts of a series or were mass-produced by the archives. Nowadays, their number is decimated - many were destroyed by time, use, or natural disasters. Few were preserved and are nowadays carefully stored in our archives.
