Three apprentices from the Pressed Steel Company were awarded gold certificates by the Duke of Edinburgh at Buckingham Palace on June 15, 1963. The apprentices, Adriar Hopkins of Magdalen Road, Oxford, John Warman of Oxford Road, Woodstock, and David Lear of Binswood Avenue, Headington, were accompanied by Mr. C. J. Bennett, the apprentice supervisor. The Duke expressed his satisfaction with the company's apprenticeship scheme and reminded the apprentices that the company's chairman, Mr. Alex Abel Smith, is a trustee of the award scheme. Four other apprentices have also earned their certificates, but their trip to the palace will be delayed until December.
